Curitiba has many fun and varied tourist attractions, many of which are free. There are striking memorials and landmarks, bustling streets and promenades that never sleep. The Wire Opera House is the city’s most outstanding building although beware that many of the city’s public buildings and attractions close on Mondays.

24 Hours Street (24 Horas Street)
Situated between Visconde do Rio Branco and Visconde de Nacar in the city centre, 24 Horas Street is the place to go for people-watching and having fun in Curitiba. It is lined with shops, restaurants and arches, and it also has good nightlife as its title suggests. This is also the place to come to find an Internet café.

Arab Memorial
With its Middle Eastern look and feel, the Arab Memorial on Claudino dos Santos Street, Sao Francisco, pays homage to writer Kalil Gibran. This elaborate library features impressive Moorish architecture, with fine columns, arches and stained glass windows, while the memorial itself is situated over a water mirror. A sculpture of Kalil Gibran is located inside over a marble base.

Curitiba Public Promenade
Previously the Botanical Gardens, the Curitiba’s Public Promenade is one of the city’s most discerning attractions. Modelled on the French look, the gardens feature fine floral examples from around the world and can be found on Ostoja Roguski Street. There is a striking greenhouse onsite, which is beautifully lit at night, as well as the informative Botanic Museum and great hiking paths in native forest.

Jerusalem Fountain
The Jerusalem Fountain is another of Curitiba’s stand-out landmarks. Brainchild of architect Fernando Canalli and celebrating Jerusalem’s long history, this concrete tower is part of an elaborate fountain and is beautifully lit at night. It stands almost 50 feet high on Sete de Setembro Avenue and its three bronze angels atop the tower represent Christianity, Judaism and Islam.
Maria Lata D'Agua Fountain
Situated in Generoso Marques Square, near the Paranaense Museum in the city centre and surrounded by interesting old buildings, is the huge Maria Lata D'Agua Fountain. It lies over a large water mirror and features an Agua pro Morro sculpture dating from the 1940s. The original Agua pro Morro was created by famed Paraná artist, Erbo Stenzel.

Wire Opera House (Opera de Arame)
Curitiba’s most striking landmark can be found in Pedreiras Park, Abranches; a gigantic transparent tubular structure that puts on all types of shows and is well positioned between two lakes. Thousands of people can be seated inside the building, which hosts fantastic shows, while wandering around the park in between shows is also worthwhile.
