The Australian state of Queensland is best known as the home of the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree National Park. These World Heritage sites are just two of the amazing natural attractions that lure thousands of visitors every year to the northeastern corner of Australia. The sand and surf wonderland of the Gold Coast is another. Since most of Queensland has a tropical climate, it makes a very popular winter travel destination.

Queensland is a total playground for kids, and luckily many of the attractions appeal to adults as well. Wildlife and nature parks are a major highlight all around this region, but particularly along the Gold Coast and in Brisbane. High-tech amusement parks like Dreamworld have world-class thrill rides, while Sea World gives you a close-up encounter with the underwater realm.

Queensland is an absolute playground for nature lovers. The entire coast of this region is lined with beautiful lively beaches, epitomised by the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Just offshore is the magnificent Great Barrier Reef and its endless attractions. Head north and the scene transforms into one of the planet’s oldest and largest rainforests, protected within the Wet Tropics National Park. All along the way, visitors will find charming little towns both along the shore and up in the misty mountains that testify to the quality of Queenslanders.

There are two main airports servicing Queensland. The larger and busier is Brisbane’s International Airport. Around 20 international carriers operate regular flights to Brisbane from Asia, Europe and North America. An extensive domestic airline system keeps Queensland well-connected with the rest of Australia. Cairns Airport provides convenient access to northern Queensland from limited international and domestic destinations.
