Airports

Perth's International Airport (PER) is located approximately 10 miles from the city. The less used Perth Domestic Airport is just over six miles from the centre. Both the international and domestic airports provide basic facilities for passengers for food, drink, banking and shopping.

International flights arrive in Perth from a variety of locations including Honk Kong, Auckland, Dubai, Tokyo, Bangkok and Singapore on over a dozen international airlines. The domestic airport has regular services to cities such as Melbourne, Darwin, Brisbane, Cairns and Sydney.

Shuttle buses and taxis provide transfer service between the two airports, and also to the cities of Perth and Fremantle. The Perth Airport City Shuttle operates service round the clock from the international airport to Perth centre and collect passengers from various points in the city and from Northbridge hotels for transfer to the airport. Transfer services also run to and from the airport and the East Perth Railway Station.

From the domestic airport, Transperth routes 37 and 39 service Perth city centre, running on the half hour during the day and hourly after 18:00. The journey takes just over 30 minutes. For the return trip, the main points of departure in the city are Busport stands E1 and E3, and stands 35 and 47 between Barrack and William streets on St Georges terrace. Buses depart from the domestic airport approximately every half hour during the day and hourly after 18:00, and all day on Sundays.

Public Transport

Once you’ve arrived in Perth, getting around is easy by bus and train. If your travel is within the city boundaries, service is free. For example, there is no fare for train travel between City West, Claisebrook, McIver and Perth. For travel to and from the suburbs, Transperth buses provide extensive service. Tickets are valid for 1 hour, 30 minutes and are also valid on Transperth ferries and trains for the same time period. The main bus terminals are located at the City Busport and the Wellington Street Bus Station in Perth. A special free bus service known as the CAT (Central Area Transport) is also offered. Buses run every few minutes during business hours and then every 10 minutes from 18:00 to 01:00.

Perth is also well-serviced by metered taxis and taxi ranks are found throughout the city’s central business district and in Fremantle. Taxi service can also be requested by phone, in advance. It’s possible to hire a taxi and driver for a personalised guided tour as well. You should be aware that rates are lowest on weekdays and double at night and weekends. There’s typically a surcharge applied for bookings by phone and on public holidays.
