The state capital of the Australian island of Tasmania, Hobart is among the oldest cities in the country. With a location at the estuary of the Derwent River, it’s also one of the most scenic urban developments in Tasmania, and a combination of aesthetically pleasing sights with modern conveniences have helped make it the island’s most popular tourist destination.
Something of an ideal family holiday destination, Hobart offers plenty to keep visitors with young ones in tow occupied. There are fascinating manmade attractions such as the Antarctic Adventure theme park and others such as Bonorong Park Wildlife Centre, which relies more on nature for its thrills. Situated in the suburb of Cambridge around 12 miles from downtown Hobart, Hobart International Airport is the primary gateway to the city. The airport’s name is something of a misnomer since scheduled international flights have not operated here since the 1990s, but it still retains its international terminal and customs facilities for passengers arriving on chartered international flights from Singapore operated by Singapore Airlines.
