The Gold Coast is a huge conurbation to the south of Brisbane in the southern corner of Queensland with some high quality beaches and Surfers Paradise as its epicentre. A popular tourist destination for over 100 years, the Gold Coast continues to attract large amounts of visitors - both domestic and from around the world - who come for the sun, beaches and bustling atmosphere.
There is so much scope for kids to have fun on the Gold Coast, with the sea and fine beaches being the biggest attractions here. As well as the beach, the Gold Coast also offers amusement arcades, go-karting, and loads of fun theme parks designed with children in mind.
The Gold Coast’s calendar of festivals and events is impressive. Everything from the most demanding of sporting events, including surfing and the Ironman triathlon, to cultured eating and drinking and several notable music events ensure a busy year.
Most things to see on the Gold Coast involve the outdoors, from the fantastic surfing beaches in and around Surfers Paradise to the mountains of the spectacular McPherson ranges. The Gold Coast also has loads of buzzing theme parks to try out as well as some interesting museums and galleries, and is within proximity to the late Steve Irwin’s outstanding Australia Zoo.
The most convenient airport in the region is Gold Coast Airport in Coolangatta, also known as Coolangatta Airport. Four million people come through this little airport every year, mainly from other Australian cities as well as from New Zealand and some Asian cities.
