Airports
Adelaide Airport is the main hub for air travel to South Australia, and is serviced by domestic and international carriers. International flights arrive from a number of originating points around the world, either directly or via Sydney or Brisbane. The terminals offer travellers all amenities and facilities that would be expected at a busy, modern international airport.
The airport is located just five miles west of Adelaide, and a variety of transfer options are available. There’s an airport bus that leaves the airport every half hour. Many hotels also provide transfer services, but it’s a good idea to check with your hotel when booking if this option is available. The airport bus makes stops at major city hotels and also at the interstate rail station.
All major car hire companies are represented in the domestic and international terminals. Chauffeured car services are available, and need to be arranged in advance. There are taxi bays outside the Arrivals halls of both terminals, and all taxis are metered.
Public Transport
Cities in Australia are long distances apart and although bus travel is less expensive than flying, visitors typically find that limited holiday time makes air travel a better option.
Bus services are available to all major cities in the country through both major bus operators and smaller bus companies, some of which offer special traveller itineraries. Interstate rail service is available from Adelaide to Alice Springs, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
run, comprehensive network of public buses and trains. At the corner of Currie and King William streets, there’s a Passenger Transport Information Centre where you can find travel timetables and buy tickets. In addition to the buses and trains, a tram service runs from the city centre to Glenelg, while the O-Bahn bus runs on a concrete track from the city centre to the Tea Tree Plaza shopping complex.
The city is cyclist-friendly with a number of bicycle lanes provided along city streets, and good cycling tracks throughout. Two free bus services operate in the centre: one is known as the City Loop and the other as the Beeline.
Taxis are readily available in Adelaide with ranks found at prominent locations throughout the city. It’s also possible to call in advance to book a taxi service.
